Bridging cultures through design

Redesigned a platform to empower corporate employees for global success

The Context

CultureWizard is a cultural learning product that helps business people understand cultural differences, in order to prepare them to relocate to other countries and to collaborate with colleagues and industry partners around the world.

We completely overhauled their brand and product experience, including their marketing site and their Learning Management System.

I led the strategy and UX for the project.

We started with a workshop

We learned that the current product had been cobbled together over many years, and they were looking for a complete design overhaul.

We then did a deep-dive into the key user groups, understanding their context of use, needs and motivations.

Based on those user groups and user journeys, we prioritized features and streamlining the structure of the product.

The design approach

The experience included information about different cultures and quizzes to test your knowledge.

though the product was used in a corporate setting, we wanted a polished, colorful, visual experience that felt like a consumer product.

Travel and exploring cultures is fun, and we wanted to bring that tone to the experience.

Creating a personalized experience

Because the use cases for the product were so broad, a personalized experience was critical. So one area of focus was a new onboarding flow that ensured we were gathering the right information.

Tracking your progress

The product had a robust structure that broke down cultures into 8 categories. Based on this, we compared a user’s preferences in these categories to the preferences of the countries they work with. This was the method of identifying areas where the person needed to learn more.
